Slimline water tanks are an excellent option for any home. Thanks to their size and shape, they are dynamic and can be placed in various situations. Let's go through the steps of installing a slimline water tank. The difficulty of installation can vary based on what purpose you will be using your water tank.
We'll go into greater detail for more complicated setups, but this installation guide is for a simple design.
Capturing rainwater from a roof, then utilised for lawns and gardens - either with a pump or gravity feed.
Step one: Measure up and prepare your pad
First, we need to get measurements organised to know how much space you have to work with. You can't install a water tank that doesn't fit your available space.
Top tips for taking measurements:
- It would be best if you allowed AT LEAST 100mm of space outside of the dimensions of your tank. For example, if your tank will be 2400mm long and 850mm wide, you should allow for 2500mm in length and 950mm in width because most manufacturers will stipulate that you need to make your water tank pad this much greater than your tank.
- Keep an eye out for windows and other house utilities when measuring out your space. You don't want to block your window or deny access to critical parts of your home.
You'll then need to prepare the pad for your water tank.

You'll need to provide us with the dimensions you desire and a layout of the fittings you would like.
Step three: Take delivery
If you order a water tank with us, we'll take care of delivery. Water tanks can be challenging to maneuver and are vulnerable to damage during delivery. It is best to leave this part to the professionals. We'll contact you with a delivery date, and once accepted, your tank will enter into production. Once production is complete, your tank will be delivered and placed on the water tank pad you have prepared.
Step four: Plug in your accessories
Any connection that involves mains water needs to be handled by a licensed plumber. Once the tank is in place, your plumber should be able to take everything from here.
If the water tank is for personal use and doesn't require a connection to your mains supply - then you can install the water tank yourself.
For a standard installation, you only need to worry about:
- Connecting your overflow to stormwater - you can gather up PVC parts and glue from Bunnings to send your overflow into existing stormwater
- Fit your ball valve to the 25mm outlet that we installed - very important; otherwise, your water will just run out everywhere!
- Run your downpipes or charge line (the pipes your rainwater is coming from) into your inlet strainer.
That's it! Next time it rains, your tank will fill, and you'll have your very own supply of water to use as you see fit!
